ORIENT CRAFTS MUSEM is founded in the 1965 by Late Sri Bhagaban Maharana ,Late Sri Satya badi Maharana ,Late Dukhi Shyma Maharana ,Late Sri Bhubaneswar Mohapatra, Late Shri Sridhar Mohapatra (An eminent Group Of Biswokarma Family).They have been dedicatedly learning themselves into the Construction of different renowned heritages of Orissa .They planned to Make a society of Artists in Pathuria Sahi ,puri, a coastal town of Odisha in Eastern part of India and.The Orient Crafts Museum was established in 1994.
Today With an expansion of activities Sri Harihar Maharana, son of Late Sri Bhagaban Maharana has dedicated himself to protect and promote the culture, art & Craft and heritage of Odisha.
He not only leads a big team of artisans and Sculptors to make marvellous stone statues, wooden statues and paintings but also trains large number of students from different corners of India for Wider dissemination of our heritage and culture.
Shilp Guru Harihar Maharana had born in the year 24th August, 1943 in a family of traditional sculptors skilled in both stone and wood carving. From his childhood he was something different and his dedication was towards his father's craft. He draws inspiration by his father Late Shree Bhagaban Maharana and elder fathers Late Shree Bhubaneswar Mohapatra. His output has been appreciated by all from the day of his stepping into the stone carving. Mr. Maharana at the age of 24, rewarded with 1st National Award in Odisha for his Excellency in stone carving in the Year 1967. He has also been honoured with different state and national level Awards for his various innovative traditional sculptures.
Shilp Guru Harihar Maharana has imparted training to large number of persons in sculpture of stone carving in Odisha Handicrafts Training Institution, Govt. of Odisha as a superintendent. After his retirement from the government service he started a Home based Gurukul and trained large numbers of students who have received state and national level awards and many of his idols have found prominent places in different Governments and Non-Government Organizations in Odisha, India and abroad. The Gurukul named as Orient Crafts Museum is now organized by Mr. Anil Kumar Maharana (proprietor & National (M) Awarded Sculptor), Mr. Sunil Kumar Maharana (Sculptor), Susil Kumar Maharana (National & International Awarded Sculptor), Mr. Dillip Maharana, Mrs Pratima Maharana(wife of Anil Kumar) and Bishal Maharana(son of Anil Kumar) as (Market developer).They has all along received assistance and encouragement from their mother Srimati Gouri Maharana and father Sri Harihar Maharana. Unfortunately Shilp guru Maharana passed away at on 26th April, 2014. Friends and comrades, the light has gone out of our lives, and there is darkness everywhere. Our beloved father is no more. We will not see him again, as we have seen him for these many years, we will not run to him for advice from him, and that is a terrible blow, not only for me, but also thousand art lover in this state(Odisha)and his body was fired at puri (SWORG-DWAR) with present of his relatives and art lovers.
By Hindu tradition the ashes were to be spread on bay of bangle. Our father's ashes were immersed at the Sangam at Allahabad.
